Top 10 Large Ceiling Fans for 2020 - 84 Inches and Up
Top 10 Large Ceiling Fans for - 84 Inches and Up
Larger Ceiling Fans Are More Popular Than Ever
In today’s ceiling fan designs it seems fans just keep getting bigger for household use. Sure, companies like MacroAir and EnergyLogic have been around for years now, and are still popular for warehouse use. They’ve been making fans with up to 24ft blade spans for years. However, those fans are really too large for most any residence, and besides that, they can be a burden to install outside of a steal structured warehouse setting. Most also require 220 volt power sources and bulky control boxes to operate, which makes them not a good choice for residential use. Most of those are not aesthetically pleasing to look at either. Because of this, popular residential ceiling fan name brands have filled in the void for typical household use.

Brands such as TroposAir, Fanimaiton, Minka Aire, as well as Modern Forms make a wide assortment of high quality, high performance large ceiling fans for the home. Almost all of them can be used either inside the home, or outdoors on the patio of covered deck.
You can be assured if you purchase these large industrial styled fans from any of the above companies that you will be most satisfied with your choice. There are others that are pretty good too, but those four brands seem to be the best of the best when it comes to these type of ceiling fans for home usage.
Buyer Beware…
Other names have recently emerged on the market for these oversized ceiling fan designs, and many have an overwhelming, almost unbelievable amount of reviews on the big box stores website's, as well as the largest internet retailer in the world's website. The amount of lengthy, detailed reviews, that read more like a book than a review, tends to lead many to believe these must be good fans. I am here to tell you for your own good, don’t believe the hype.
Look carefully at the reviews, and you’ll notice that the overly long and detailed ones almost always seem to hit on the same points about the product being reviewed. This is because most of the time, when reading one of these long reviews, larger companies pay content writers to go in and write bogus reviews about a product. Why you may ask? It serves two purposes.
The first, and really less important reason companies pay for services like this is to make potential customers feel comfortable about buying a product they have never heard of, nor, when pertains to a ceiling fan, can see in operation inside of a store before making a purchase. The potential buyer reads the review and feels they must be getting a high quality product if it has tons of reviews, mostly all 5 star rated.
The second, and main reason for these paid for reviews, is what is known as Search Engine Optimization, or SEO. You see, search engines like Google consider content to be king when the algorithms decide which websites to rank at the top of their searches. In a search engines’ eyes, these reviews deliver many words related to the product, thus causing the product to come up at the top of the searches and generating more traffic to a company’s website that have seemingly an unlimited advertising budget to pay for these type of reviews.
Just as I’m writing this article, that I hope to be helpful to you, one reason I am writing this is for content on ModernFanOutlet.com. Sure, I want this to be help you in your search for the perfect oversized ceiling fan, but if it doesn’t help our website rank higher on the search engines I am wasting my time. I don’t get paid to write articles, but rather to get more traffic to the website so we can sell more ceiling fans. In this case, large ones.
I cannot speak for every article written that you may read on other websites, whether about fans or a kitchen sink, but any article I write will be truthful and not misleading; not written only to get higher search rankings, but in hopes of helping you make the right choices while shopping online. At the same time, I do hope that one of the added benefits of writing is to get extra traffic to our website that convert into sales. If you’re reading this I have at least met half of my goal!
Lastly, about being aware of fake reviews, just don’t be fooled by the “verified buyer” label you may see. The reviews on our website are done by a 3rd party company (yotpo.com) and they are verified and generated by them from request sent 30 days after purchase. This is the only way we collect reviews on our website. We do not allow reviews from just anyone. The only way to leave a review is to have purchased the product being reviewed from our store. This way it is out of our control and they cannot be faked. The unfortunate part of the way we do this is that we do not have nearly as many reviews on the site as we'd like. We have fans that we've sold thousands of and yet they may show less than 10 reviews. It seems most don't take the time to leave reviews unless they are upset with their purchase. Glad we don't have many of those!
That said, a website developer can make our site, or any other website say anything they want about a review being from a "verified purchaser", even if it really isn't. Most are not. All I am tying to say is, buy a quality product, without being deceived by faked reviews. Usually a price too low to be true… is.
NOW FOR THE TOP 10 BEST LARGE CEILING FANS FOR (84” and bigger)
#10- 84” Minka Aire Xtreme H2
For those looking for a large ceiling fan that are on a strict and tight budget, the Minka Aire Xtreme in the 84” size would be a good choice before deferring to a lower price off brand ceiling fan. With a name like Minka Aire you cannot go wrong. Minka has been making quality and highly sought after fans for many years, and is one of the most popular brand names you will find.
That said, the affordable $489.95 price point comes at a quality reduction to the other fans on this list. Yes, it looks great, and is a good performer too. However, to keep it affordable Minka Aire decided to use outdoor ABS plastic blades, not the high end extruded aluminum material used for the other fans of this same styling on our top 10 list. Minka did not cut corners on the motor though, which makes it a better value than purchasing some off brand that advertises aluminum blades, but then skips out on motor quality. Not only that, but ABS plastic blades are better quality than the much thinner aluminum blades that off brands use. High-end brands use thicker higher quality aluminum. The thin stuff with the off brand fans just doesn’t last and tends to bend from things as simple as high winds from a thunderstorm. Therefore, the 84” Minka Aire Xtreme is the best choice for those on a budget.
The Xtreme H2O is available in 3 finishes to choose from.
#9- 84” Fanimation Wrap
This is one of only two 3-blade fans to make our list. It has a really nice modern design and it is unique due to many customer color combinations. With this model you can choose between 5 motor finishes, and then select from 6 different blade color choices to create the perfect combination for your modern décor. Also, making it unique is the many smaller sizes it comes in for the customer that wants to keep it consistent through their home, but not every room may be large enough for an 84 inch ceiling fan. It comes in a size as small as 44”, and more sizes between that and the 84” one.
Another thing that makes the Fanimation Wrap ceiling fan unique is the speed settings. Instead of having only 3 like many fans, or 6-speeds like most models on this list, the Wrap features a variable speed full-function remote with an optional in-wall control available. With the variable speeds the user is able to get exactly the airflow comfort level they desire.
This model is also outdoor wet location rated. This means you can use it anywhere inside our outside of your home without without worry.
#8- 84” Fanimation TriAire
This fan has exactly the same features as the Fanimation Wrap, except for one less blade finish to customize the fan with. All the same sizes are available, if you need matching models that aren’t quite as large. Also with a custom LED light fixture available if you need to add more lighting into your room.
Again, just as the Wrap, the TriAire model is wet rated and can be used indoor or outdoor in any type of weather conditions
Personally, I like the styling of the TriAire better than the Wrap, but I realize everyone’s taste are different. Therefore, don’t let what I like deter you form choosing the look you feel is the best fit for your taste.
#7- 96” Minka Aire Xtreme
Coming in at number 7 on our list is another MInka Aire Xtreme ceiling fan, but this time in a 96”. Very similar in styling to the 84” Xtreme, except due to the longer blades this one uses, it has been upgraded to high quality extruded aluminum blades.
For indoor use this is a great fan. It performs well, producing 13,080 CFM of airflow. Like all fans on this list, it utilizes a DC motor for more power and better energy efficiency. There is only one drawback to this big ceiling fan; it isn’t rated to be used outdoors. It is indoor only, but if you are not needing an outdoor ceiling fan this will be an excellent possibility for a great room or any open living space.
#6- 110” Minka Aire Geant
The Geant ceiling fan by Minka Aire is one of my favorites for styling. It’s huge blade sweep of 110 inches are finished with upward swooping “wing tips” at the end of each. This creates a very cool modern look. It helps to keep the stying more in line with the $5,000 warehouse fans produced by Big Ass Fans. At just over 11,000 CFMs of airflow it doesn’t perform like the much more expensive alternative, but really for household use, especially when used inside the home, the airflow from this fan is more than adequate.
The Geant is also a “smart ceiling fan”. This means that it will connect to the WiFi network at your home and is compatible with many smart home devices. Smart fan control is the future of ceiling fans. That, combined with an energy saving DC motor, makes this ceiling fan a great buy for those who need a fan giant enough to fill an open room with high ceilings.

This fan can also be used outdoors in any location. It is wet rated; whether you have a roof or not, this fan with work in either case.
#5- 120” Modern Forms Hydra
The Modern Forms Hydra is made of high quality construction through and through. Heavy duty extruded aluminum blades, heavy enough to never bend or bow, are combined with an aluminum motor housing. This gives this model extreme anti-corrosion properties that makes it a good choice for outdoor use along areas with harsh elements in the air, such as coastal locations.
The technology used to control this fan is second to none. It can be controlled from the included 6-speed, full-function wall control, or controlled almost any other way you may be able to dream of. You can either add a handheld remote, or simply download the Modern Forms Smart App to any smart or tablet to get full control, including programing the fan to use calendars for timed functions and more. Even connect this smart ceiling fan with Alexa or Google Assistant; or pair it to function in perfect harmony with an Ecobee thermostat to make sure it’s always running at a speed that meets your home comfort level.
The Hydra also comes in a 96” and an 80” size. Both are great fans and excellent choices if you need a huge ceiling fan, but not quite 10 foot huge.
Although the 96” Hydra ceiling fan ins’t officially on this list, do not count it out; especially if you are getting a 120” one and would like to keep it consistent for another large but slightly smaller room. It is also an excellent fan.
#4- 84” Fanimation Stellar
There are many features of this ceiling fan that makes it the #4 rated ceiling fan on this top 10 list. It moves an impressive 13,389 cubic feet per minute of airflow. Which, if you know what to look for when buying a big ceiling fan, you’ll realize that amount of airflow makes this fan one of the better choices available. I could go on and on about this fans’ features, but for the sake of time please skip to the number #3 fan on this list and apply every feature of the 96” Fanimation Stellar listed there to this fan. All features are the same, except for the CFM difference between the two models.
#3- 96” Fanimation Stellar
Moving an impressive 14,548 cubic feet per minute of airflow, the 96” Stellar by Fanimation ceiling fan company comes in on my top 10 list at #3.
This fan has all of the things you could ask for in an industrial warehouse styled ceiling fan. A great modern look; thick, heavy duty extruded aluminum blades; the option to use the fan with or without it’s included lumens LED light; a totally variable speed handheld remote with an available wall control; and an upgrade to a WiFi smart control system is also available. This fan also allows for your choice of indoor or outdoor location usage, thanks to it being UL wet rated.
The 96” Stellar is also one of the few fans of this type that allows the buyer to mix-and-match motor and blade finishes. It comes in all black with small silver trim accents, and in an all silver with minor black accents. Or, if you prefer to have a silver motor with black blades, or switch it up to a black motor with silver blades you can do the too. Whichever combo looks best for your décor, it is a no cost option that allows you to customize this fan’s appearance.
The 96” Stellar could easily come in at #1 on my top 10 list, if it weren’t for the sheer performance of the top rated large ceiling fan. When you get to that fan you’ll see what know what I’m talking about.
#2- 84” TroposAir Titan II
TroposAir’s 84” Titan has been around for longer than almost any fan of this type in the industry. It was the first to use the combo of a super efficient high-performance motor with high-end extruded aluminum blade construction, all in an affordable package. As a matter of fact, the fan topped many competitor’s fans that cost two to three times the price. It’s the only fan I can think of, besides maybe the #1 fan on the list, that are almost in the “too good to be true category”, yet, it is true. Very rare to find that, but this is one of those moments.
Today’s version the Titan uses the same motor, but received a slight facelift that makes it more sleek looking in appearance below the blades. Due to this change, the name was changed to Titan II. The sleeker bottom of the fan got rid of the former not so bright and bulky fluorescent light, and gave the option to add a very sleek and integrated designed LED light. The fan doesn’t come standard with the light, but if you do need a light, the new light is much brighter and only adds 3/4” to the total profile of the fan. I have a hard time deciding whether I like the appearance of this fan best with or without the light. Therefore, if you ask me which one from a styling standpoint I am not going to be of much help.
The 84” TroposAir Titan II is still by far one of the best values for the money available. Made of all the best quality materials, and one of the most energy efficient motors of any 84” ceiling fan on the market, at $699.99 it is actually a better fan than any of it’s competitors no matter the cost. You can spend less, and you will get way less and never know what true satisfaction from a fan like this could be like. You can spend way more, and still will not get way more. In a nut shell, you cannot go wrong with this fan if 84 inches is the size you need.
To prove this, look no further than the CFM rating this fan offers. It is rated at an incredibly impressive 14,353 CFMs. If you’ve been paying attention to each fan in this article, that is nearly the airflow 96” Fanimation Stellar. Yet this fan does it with a 12 inch smaller overall blade span, and for nearly $500 less in price.
The Titan II is outdoor rated, but just be sure it is under a covered area, as it has a UL damp location outdoor rating, not wet. The fan is made every bit as well at a wet rated fan, but it was just not designed to have direct water contract you may find in areas like a pergola, where no roof is overhead.
The 84” Titan II by TroposAir is available in 3 finishes, including Pure White! It is one of the only large industrial ceiling fans available in this finish, and the color is perfect for the sleekest of modern interior décor. The other finishes are Oil Rubbed Bronze and Brushed Nickel, and the fan is also available in 52 inch, 66 inch, as well as a model with a 72 inch blade span for those that would like to keep the look of this fan throughout other sized rooms in their home.
#1 Large Ceiling Fan for - Drumroll Please…
The #1 top fan, and still reigning champion from Modern Fan Outlet’s list of best oversized ceiling fans is the TroposAir Liberator with 96” blade span.
Everything on this 96” ceiling fan speaks volumes for high-end quality. The most heavy-duty constructed extruded aluminum blades in the industry are combined with one of the industry’s most powerful DC motors ever to be created. What this means is airflow and more AIRFLOW! How much airflow? That would be 16,900 CFM. Compare that to even much larger 120” blade span fans that cannot reach those numbers. That should give some perspective for you on how good this fan is. And to think it comes in at under $1,000 makes it by far the best deal if you’re in the market for a ceiling fan this size or above.
The 96” Liberator is a large ceiling fan without a light, but it does offer an option of adding an integrated LED array light. The optional light is very flat and low profile and doesn’t add bulk to the look of this incredible fan. Yet it is bright enough to help brighten up whatever space it is installed in.
Just like the Titan II, this fan comes in 3 finishes, one of which is Pure White. There again, TroposAir hasn’t forgotten about how hard it is to find a large industrial fan in a white finish, so they offer the white along with their Brushed Nickel and Oil Rubbed Bronze finishes.
The TroposAir Liberator also comes in 72 and an 82 inch version, although both have a slightly different blade design than its 96" counterpart. Because this is a top 10 list for fans of at least 84 inches and up, neither could be included here, though they should be. Both of those outperform every single fan on this list in terms of airflow volume and wind speed. This is why the Liberator series of fans from TroposAir is by far the clear winner here.
